- If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
I would recommend taking classes through a BOCES or other higher education school. I would recommend having at least 2 years to learn everything efficiently, there is a lot of concepts to learn and remember. I would also let people know that the state board test is very passable with hard work and determination!
- What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)
Compassion and a genuine interest in helping those in need. Must be strong in both mind and body, and be able to think clearly. Must be able to make split decisions as well, such as what to do in a life or death situation. People need to be aware that someones life is in their hands and they must be alert and functioning at full capacity at all times. I would also say someone has to have good social skill and be able to communicate with people from different cultures and people with different values. A candidate would also have to be able to memorize and remember a lot of medical terms and definitions.
- Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
yes, defininately a certificate with a 1000 hours of classroom and theory is needed to be sucessful. - What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
I would say to make sure it is something you want to do, not just a temporary job or a fill in position, because there isn't a lot of money in this particular job but if it is something you enjoy, the possibility of advancing is very good, and a lot of employers will pay tuition either in part or whole for someone who is passionate to pursue higher education.
