Describe the type of organization you work for.
We are a small family owned Third-Party Pension Administration company with approximately 10 employees.

Describe your job role and responsibilities.
We do compliance testing and complete annual tax returns for qualified plans (401k, profit Sharing, Defined Benefit, POP). We do this for the plans of small & medium sized companies. We also prepare new plan documents, amend current plan documents, & help withn all aspects of plan structure.

It’s an old house that has been converted to office space but still has a homey feel. I love having a home like kitchen fot lunch & coffee breaks.

yes. I took the NIPA classes and became designated APA

Have a payroll background (helps when dealing with clients when discrepancies come up) and take courses with NIPA – National Institute of Pension Administrators (Nipa.org).

What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours?
attention to detail, excellent math and problem solving skills

yes. Need classes at NIPA.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Should keep up with all law changes through constant continuing education and seminars

Is your current employment part of your overall career plan? Why or why not?
yes. I love the attention to detail and that I am focusing on the area of qualified plans. My last job I had many duties with no focus on a particular aspect. I am no longer a jack of all trades.
