Current job Q&A
Describe the type of organization you work for.
I work for a large Financial Institution that is doing very well. I work in a call center located in Northern Idaho that services Credit Cards for this, and many other large corporations. The center I work in employs approximately 600 employees and continues to grow.
Describe your job role and responsibilities.
As a Team Lead my job primarily includes development of Service Advisors on a team of about 10 people. I listen to and score calls on whether correct information is being provided, good customer service is provided, proper verification procedures are followed through on and other terms of job description are met. At times I aid in delivering disciplinary action. I also am required to do several side by side training/development sessions in a month. Strict deadlines, lots of work, not too much time to do it!
Please list an additional benefits (beyond compensation) that you receive.
Two weeks paid vacation w/ability to purchase more if needed, 40 hrs of paid sick leave/year, Health/Dental insurance, Company matched 401K, Tution reimbursment, merit based bonuses and raises w/annual review
Do you feel you are under/over or well/fairly compensated at your current position?
under compensated.
Does your job entail you working with others on a daily basis? Is this something you like/dislike about your job? Please explain.
My job entails much interaction with employees reporting to me, as well as customers over the phone. Taking phone calls can be very tedious and at times stressful (Many customers calling are upset over their current situation). Dealing with people as a part of my job is not my favorite part about it, I prefer the organization and creative bits that I get to bring into my position.
Do you work collaboratively with supervisors/managers?
Yes
Do you work collaboratively with your co-workers?

How you got your job
How did you get your current job?
Referral
What was the application process?
Submit application (used to be in paper, now online), good to include resume and cover letter for Team Lead position or up
Did you have to interview for your current job? If yes, what did the interview process entail?
For entry level I had one interview but is possible to have more than one. For Team Lead or other positions, may have as many as 3 interviews.
If you can remember, what questions were you asked during the interview?
How do you define success of your team? Why should we select you for this position? What will you do to develop your employees? What are important skills to have in this position? Provided a problem scenario and asked me to solve issue.
Do you feel your employer properly prepared you for your job? Explain.
Entry level training prepares one for the position as adequately as possible. Employer becoming more organized with training for leadership employees.
Was there training for your current position? If yes, what did it entail?
Yes. Training involved class room like explanation of products and processes. 3 weeks for entry level, on going for positions above that.
Do you feel your educational background prepared you for your job? Explain.
No. High School prepares you for nothing in real life.
If applicable, do you feel your internship experience helped you prepare for your job?
NO.
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Apply online at usbank.com. May have to start entry level, but very easy to advance if meeting goals at entry level and with professional and positive attitude.
What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours?
Definitely need patience, some technical skills (as computer work in Excel, Power Point, Word and other programs are required), organizational skills are a must. Professionalism VERY well recognized, even if young in age.
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
To advance above a Team Lead position some schooling may be required, though not always.
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Prepare yourself to work every other weekend at entry level, one in six weekends if in a Team Lead position. Beware of too many absences, have solid daycare arrangements, prepare for almost constant change, a lot of information to remember but also, friendly people, much support with answering questions and in all other areas, good friends (even in upper management), recognition activities, chances to win fun prizes, etc.!
