Describe the type of organization you work for.
Worldwide hotel chain that offers lodging and convention services. It is a rather large hotel with about 1,500 employees.

Describe your job role and responsibilities.
Manage union staff of 20 while attending to guest needs, maximizing interdepartmental cooperation and maintaining convention hotel room inventory of over 2,000 rooms. Responsible for arrival/departure process of up to 1200 reservations. Supervise all front office shifts as schedule is rotating(AM, PM, Mid and Overnight), support desk staff, monitor employees to ensure proper guest interaction is followed, manage payroll, attendance and overtime. Assist Director and Assistant Director of Front Office Operations with guest issues and complaints, manage service recovery, train/counsel new and current staff members. Responsible for Satisfaction & Loyalty Tracking scores which are based on employees performance.

Yes. I had 3 separate individual interviews. First interview with HR Manager, Second interview with my immediate supervisor, third interview with Resident Manager.

Why I wanted the position? What would make me an ideal candidate? What are my strengths? What are my weaknesses? How do I handle pressure?

Do you feel your employer properly prepared you for your job? Explain.
Yes, they explained it to the fullest.

Was there training for your current position? If yes, what did it entail?
Yes. I went to numerous full day trainings my first year. Training continues annually as a refresher.

Do you feel your educational background prepared you for your job? Explain.
Yes, it allowed me to become a leader and to utilize my multi-tasking skills. Also helped with being a detail oriented person.

Major in hospitality in college or have previous management experience.

Social skills, organizational skills, multi-tasking skills, leadership skills and be detail oriented.

Yes.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Make sure it is the industry you really want to be in.

Is your current employment part of your overall career plan? Why or why not?
Don’t believe so because it is a mandatory 10 hour work day and no longer enjoy working on holidays, weekends and nights.

What are your current career goals?
Not sure, currently exploring my other options and/or going back for my graduate degree.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your career?
As with any other large organization you must remember to keep your skills fresh and always train even on your own as anyone is indispensable. I have seen so much turnover in my industry.
