don’t know how many employees, we are a home health care organization. we go into the home and help elderly or disabled people with all activities of daily life. we do everything from housework, cooking, bathing, toileting, drive to appointments or for errands, anything you can think of that someone might need.

prepare meals, run errands, help bathe, dress, toilet, clean house,help in and out of bed, chair, etc

yes, i knew what the job intailed. had 10 yrs experience in the long term care

certified as a nurse aide in 1995. lapsed after 3 yrs absence from the field. still had the experience though

only have a high school diploma, but nurse aide training covered everything i needed to know

If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
i would recommend that they get certified as a nurse aide and get some experience in the field of long term care. that will teach them everything that they need to know

What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours?
should be able to communicate with the elderly especially, but also disabled people. need to know how to let them do for themselves but know when to step in and offer help. must be able to work independently, be able to get along with all kinds of people. be able to take direction from the client, their families, and their immediate supervisors.

Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
should be able to be certified as a nurse aide, will give all the necessary skills

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
just be friendly and do what you are supposed to do

sure, i like taking care of people. would like to go into nursing, but am waiting until last child is out of high school. 3 years
