I currently work in a High school with 25 total teachers and 450-500 students from grades 9-12.

ALWAYS work with students. i do not have to work with other teachers. i enjoy it.

in the field. i enjoy teaching in a not so structured environment. the students are constantly engaged and i don’t have to worry about keeping them interested. however, i do have about 85 students all at one time.

yes. 2 interviews… one with principal of school and then with school board officials.
If you can remember, what questions were you asked during the interview?
why do you want to be a music teacher. what is your philosphy of teaching. what would you do if a student got out of control. how would you handle a student who would not cooperate.
Do you feel your employer properly prepared you for your job? Explain.
yes. let me know what type of students i would be dealing with and even let me observe the class with previous teacher
Was there training for your current position? If yes, what did it entail?
yes. college and student teaching. lots of field work such as observations.
Do you feel your educational background prepared you for your job? Explain.
no. although the technical aspect i was prepared for…. i didn’t realize all the other/extra work i would have to do. such as fundraising, teacher/parent board, and the personal relationships that would build through having all the same students for so long!

more so than the school work did
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
first you need a bachelors. then make sure that you have a lot of field experience while in college to understand what you are doing once you get in the classroom
What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours?
organization is very important when dealing with a large group of kids. you should always be honest, moral, and trustworthy to gain the students trust.

yes
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
don’t be scared! its a lot easier after you get in the groove (so to speak)
