Overview

Stockbrokers are responsible for managing the financial portfolios of their clients. A client base may include both individuals and companies. Working with financial analysts, stockbrokers give clients advice about which stocks are best to sell or buy for optimal returns on their investments.

Job duties go beyond the stereotypical shouting in a busy building. Stockbrokers spend most of their time researching financial markets, contacting clients, composing reports, contacting prospective clients, and monitoring the investments of current clients.

To be a successful stockbroker, a person must be a quick thinker, as stockbrokers must make quick decisions that come with a great deal of risk. Other helpful traits include creativity, confidence, intuitive, and organization. In addition to these qualities, proper education is required. The minimum education requirement for an entry-level job is a bachelor?s degree in business administration. To broaden the amount of job opportunities, it is best to have a master?s degree; most candidates who hold an MBA are considered over those who do not.

While a stockbroker?s job is not easy, it is a good choice for someone who embraces every challenge.
