Manager Job Profile (ID #3510)
Male, 52, CA
As manager I am responsible for all operations and duties of the business, with the exception of writing checks. I open in the morning and begin the day with a walk-thru to plan the days work plan and what workers will be assigned to each job. A materials sheet for each job is set up and ready to turn into our shop forman to fill for each job and loaded onto the job cart, along with new parts to be installed. I assign the job to the selected worker and explain the procedures to be performed and the manner in which I wish for the to be done. There are several stages of the repair process: 1. damage repair 2. surface preparation for paint (sanding & masking) 3. paint color match and application 4. after paint detail and spot repair 5. assembly and detail 6. Last inspection before calling customer for pick-up. AT numerous times of the day I have to walk the shop and mark at which stage any particular vehicle is at, so when a customer calls I can answer intelligently and have the answers they are asking for. At any time during the day I get customers that come into the shop for an estimate of repairs, whether for a classic restoration or an insurance repair. A classic restoration estimate can take anywhere from 1 hour to 2 days depending on age of vehicle and parts needed and location of those parts, an insurance estimate takes no more than 30 minutes to a max of 1 hour for a real big job. When a vehicle reaches stage 6. the shop forman makes his inspection and then alerts me that it's ready for my inspection. I inspect the vehicle and make any needed notations for improvement or park out front for delivery. During the process of the day parts deliveries come in and have to be inventoried in and assigned to the locker corresponding to that vehicle, all inventory items have to be input to the computer inventory system to keep a running tab on what is in the shop and what is still needed. Material and parts control is 1 of the biggest areas of loss for any repair shop, a loss in any area is cause for concern and reflects on the end of month numbers. End of the day comes with a final walk-thru to see the accomplishments of the day and gear up for the next. Now the manager gets to lock up and go home...
