3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Have experience in the field, don't be afraid to voice your own opinions, don't become stagnant. If you think you have an idea for how to improve the store, say it. The worst that can happen is the owner will say no, but more than likely, they will at least appreciate your initiative. Also, don't let yourself get pushed around. Not by a customer, not by a boss. Your self worth is more important than that.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
People skills, creativity, some computer skills, math skills. Some customers are just plain difficult to deal with, but you can't tell them that. You have to listen to their underlying message to get them what they are looking for. You must be creative to get the product to sell. If you simply set a box on a shelf, it will stay there. Computer and math skills are helpful because if something goes wrong, you can usually fix it yourself.
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
Mid high school
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Have a thick skin. Customers will sometimes say things to you that they don't mean or are not truly directed at you. Unless they cross a line, comments like that can simply be ignored.
