I work for a film festival where I read and edit scripts for a screenplay competition. The staff size is about 15, and I am one of 10 script readers.

I edit scripts, and I judge them based on a specific criteria set forth by the organizers of the film festival. It is a contract position wherein I am paid per script that I read.

I do not work directly with others on a daily basis. My work is done under contract, and I complete assignments under deadlines and then turn them in. I like this because it gives me the freedom to deal with my other responsibilities.

My home office is set up in my apartment. I have an extra room which I use as a study, and I do my work there. It works for me, and it is a stimulating environment for me to use.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

I would recommend researching organizations such as the one that I work for, and contacting them to ask about any positions available. I found my position in an advertisement, but through my work here I have learned about other similar positions in the field.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

They should be dependable as far as adhering to a schedule, they should have excellent grammar and spelling skills, they should be able to work self-sufficiently, and they should be outgoing.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes, I would say that a college degree would help.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

I would recommend that the more they read, the better they will succeed at a position like the one I have.
