Lisa Floyd Designs is a stationery and fine goods boutique with no more than 5 employees. It\'s located in Northwest Arkansas and provides customers with invitations, note cards, stationery, and unique gifts to the area.

I own the company, so I do a little bit of everything. From purchasing, inventory, sales, maintenance, instruction, customer relations, public relations, graphic design, and pretty much anything else needed.

I enjoy working with others, so the fact that my business is primarily working directly with co-workers and customers on a daily business, that's a good thing.

Are you kidding? I work everywhere I go! Seriously though, I work at my home designing, researching, ordering and contacting clients through email. I work at the store directly with my employees and clients, which is always a nice change of pace. I work in the office when I need to concentrate, so that's convenient. When I have my laptop with me, I'm usually working somehow in some way. The most disliked location I work in is the car while waiting or traveling. Not very comfortable or convenient.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Definitely research the competition, get educated about the programs you'll need to use, and be prepared for lots of work outside the work place.

Must have great people skills, good organization skills, excellent design skills, be a self-starter, have focus for details and perfection, and a desire for excellence.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Be prepared to spend a lot of time designing outside the workplace. Stay aware of what is popular in the retail arena and the trends. Make sure you have your funds in order and are ready to do lots of constant research. Realize the customer is always right and that's what we're here for. Be unique!
