I do online marketing which includes creating and maintaining partnerships with other companies, media buying, creating and implementing online marketing campaigns, affiliate management, managing advertising campaigns and social media integration.

Though I do work in an open office environment, my position requires mainly e-mail and phone communication with my clients. I work directly under my CEO and have multiple conversations and strategy meetings with him every week.

I work in an office within a large A class building in a downtown district. I like the perks of the building such as security, cafe and gym ammenities. The only downside is that parking is not paid for and is at least $100 a month.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
|
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
If you had internships in the field during or after college that will help but experience and degree and the most important qualifications. Most companies want at least 3 years experience in this role or a similar role. Networking is probably a great way to get a position in online marketing because there are countless conventions and organizations dedicated to the field.

skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
You need to know the terms and rates for the online market. Terms like CPM, CPC, CPA, eCPM and how to calculate them should be common knowledge to you. You need to be able to negotiate advertising rates both to buy and to sell from your site. You should be well rounded in Marketing and PR and know how to develop and execute effective campaigns. Analytics knowledge is important so you can judge how well a campaign went and what could be done differently to make the next one more effective. An advanced knowledge of social media and how to use it to monetize your company, it is an avenue that should not be avoided in marketing.

A degree in Communication, Media Studies or Marketing is ideal and at least a year of experience in the field.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Use every resource you can get your hands on. Read articles, research websites and most importantly network with other people in your industry. The online industry is big on working together to earn money so the more contacts you have the more opportunites for business development you will have.
