The organization I work for is called KAYESW. We get art submissions in the forms of paintings, bookwork, audio tapes, etc. and then hold exhibits and events catered to promote the artist and their artwork.

I work at a non-profit arts organization. My duties include checking voice mail, checking emails, sorting paper work, sending out mailers, posting fliers, and promoting events that are coming up in our venue.

My work environment is pretty chill. There's only 5 people working at my office. We're all friends. We have a whiteboard with a calendar on it, so we know what deadlines are coming up and we prioritize that way. We help each other out, and there's never any drama.

It's on the first floor of a building, street level with big windows so people walking pass can look in and wonder what's inside, then come inside to check out the artwork.

Volunteer at art galleries, visit museums, sign up for art classes.

You have to be able to work well with others to collaborate. You need to have background in art history.

A college degree

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Be patient and stay calm. Not everything will happen smoothly, but little by little, it gets there. Once you can stand back and look at what you've help come together, it makes it all worth it.
