A 4 year college degree is the starting point, but if you are not there yet, there are excellent programs leading to a 4 year degree in this field at most major colleges! If not at your college, then seek out by starting with FEMA's website, look under training and education. There is a packet load of schools and places offering college credit, including FEMA itself. Then go seek out people doing this job, intern or talk to them. The field is still wide open.

What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)
