3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Scour the job boards and send resumes regularly. Treat your job search as a job. Make a plan each day. Join HR organizations and network with other HR professionals. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) offers student membership rates.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

Must enjoy working with people and have the ability to deal with different personality types. Must be oraganized and able to maintain strict confidenitality. Must be able to understand,interpret and stay abreast of constantly changing HR laws.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

A Bachelors Degree is ideal however one might be able to substitute several years of on the job training

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Take advantage of seminars and conferences when the opportunity presents itself for both education and networking purposes. Understand that while HR may be seen as the entity that "hires and fires" we can also be the group that works for positive change, teambuilding, creating policies and/or events to build staff/company morale. Know that HR is not just policies and procedures. It can be fun too.
