3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Having non-profit work experience is helpful. Academic work at least tangentially related to the Church is also helpful- for example, I studied history, specifically Medieval history, and it has actually been relevant!

What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

Social and communication skills are vital, as there is constant contact with other workers, the various priests and parish workers we service, and the public. Organizational skills are also vital as work is often time sensitive, and extensive records are maintained. Foreign language experience is helpful as documents often arrive from other countries, and occasionally international calls are necessary. Facility with average office equipment and computer programs is needed.

Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

yes, a bachelor's degree would be necessary

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

To ask as many questions as possible- there are so many extremely educated people around, and the more one knows about the laws, organization, and teachings of the church, the easier the job is!
