I coordinate all aspects of the Annual Consumer Conference as well as coordinating and running events for task forces and committees within the Consumer Involvement program. I write articles for the Consumer's Voice newsletter and participate in various disability-related statewide events.

I work with people every day. I work with individuals who have various disabilities who are both consumers and staff members. It is a very diverse environment.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

I believe I found my job through a government website. A job seeker can check the state.ma.us website or the City of Boston website for a similar job.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

I have a certificate in American Sign Language interpreting. I am the liaison to the Deaf community and I really think my ASL skills were what helped me get the job. I also have several years of supervisory experience and experience with project management.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

I feel the person should know American Sign Language and have office experience. I do think educational requirements are a bit over-rated though.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Enjoy it! Most of my co-workers are great and its wonderful to be in such a diverse environment.
