I work for a private University and Medical Center that is the largest employer in our metropolitan area with over 11,000 employees. The Unversity includes the college with undergrad and graduate degrees, a Medical School and a major hospital and research center.

I assist faculty in my division with submission of grant applications. I handle all pre award and post award functions as well as the fiscal monitoring of the grant throughout its life. I prepare projections and assist with progress reports and final reports to sponsors. I also assist in setting up consultant agreements and subcontracts.

I receive health insurance, generous sick leave based on my number of years of service, 5 weeks of vacation per year, and 403b contributions of 6% of my salary regardless of my contribution, also tuition benefits for myself, spouse and my children. Children are eligible for full tuition after parent has been with the University for 10 years or more.

I feel salary levels are a bit below average, however are benefits package does compensate for some of that.

Yes, I have to work with a variety of people on a daily basis. This is one of the things I enjoy most about my current position. Every day is a little different from the day before and I have the opportunity to learn from my coworkers and colleagues.
