I work in the basement of the main Library. The space is nice, but we have no windows, so that can be a drag. Lack of sunshine is a problem, especially in the winter.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
|
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Join volunteer administrator organizations like NYAVA. They have a website www.nyava.com. Volunteer at the place you would like to work, like a museum or hospital to get a feel for the atmosphere there.

skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
Must be extremely social, have an excellent memory for faces and names as you may have hundreds of volunteers. Must be courteous, as "thank you" is a phrase you will need to repeat all day long. Must be able to be interrupted every five minutes all day long. Must be able to work on a dozen things at once. Must have good speaking and writing skills, along with computer skills.

College is preferable, just for the varied experiences that it provides.
