First get work experience a smaller company since some places require several years of experiences (+3 years)

skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a

Organizational skills are important since you may have to juggle several studies and the many samples associated with them. Technical skills such as working with computers and machines will also make the job easier since the sample processing is automated.

At least a degree in the life sciences to get a better understanding of the work being done.
