I work for the largest employer in the country--the Federal government, specifically in the Department of Veterans Affairs at a VA hospital in Central Nebraska. My specific hosptial employs about 250 persons.

I am responsible for managing the hospitals pharmacist run clinics--anticoagulation clinic, lipid clinic, hypertension clinic and diabetes clinics. I also oversee pharmacy students and pharmacy residents as a teacher, supervisor and mentor.

Have good science and mathematical skills, Be good in communications as you will need this to interact with patinets and professional colleagues,patience, willingness to continue learning on an ongoing basis as things change in health care continueously.

You need a tremendous amount of education that is ongoing

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

It is a great career that takes a lot of committemnt, both while in school, but also after you get your license and are practicing. What you put into your profession will be returned to your in droves. It is very rewarding.
