(size and general description of what type of organization it is)
I don't know the size of the organization, other than I'm sure it employs at least 100 people. They are a home and school for children who have been abused or neglected at home and the state puts them here. Some children live here (36) and others come in from the neighboring area for the education - special educatin, as well. There are therapists of all sorts, and they also give therapy to the parents before a child would/could be returned to them.

I do the filing, type labels for these files, make copies, collate, stuff envelopes, fax, work on projects, work on the database - just about everything but answer phones.

The office I work in has 3 others, plus myself. I do come in contact with others in other office areas. I don't mind this arrangement.

I would prefer working at home, but I don't mind that I just drive 5-6 miles to get to work, especially because of the rise in gas. What I don't like is when it's raining (hard) or snowing. That's why I would rather work at home.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |

If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
You can only get a job like mine by being over age 55 - as it's part of the AARP program. It's not really considered a job, per se, as it's an interim, but it's what I've been doing for 2-1/2 years as I haven't been able to find *real* work. If someone wants just minimum wage and working 20 hours a week with no benefits, then they just have to contact their local AARP office to get more info.

Therer are a variety of job opportunities depending on what skills they already have. And there are other places for work, other than where I am through this program. I just happen to have office skills and didn't want to answer phones, so this fit the bill for me.

Office work - typing, filing, etc.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
It's all about attitude and being able to work in an environment whereby the kids (because you may come in contact with them at one time or other) aren't always so polite or well-mannered, and sometimes their vocabulary isn't always approrpriate.
