3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
I would first find out if the person was willing and able to perform the job adequately, with all the knowledge and experience that this requires. I would also make the prospective employee aware of any specialized certification, licenses, etc for the position. I would also let the person know about our requirement for the background check, driving record check, and all drug & alcohol testing that would be done prior to job acceptance.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
Of course engineering and mechanical skills are vital to this job, as well as being able to work with a team of other mechanics and salesmen. Creativity is also a huge plus as many government organizations (that we rent to) need custom machinery that can withstand land mines and other dangerous situations. Personal drive and motivation are extremely important because without that employees become a burden rather than an asset to the company. Finally, and most importantly, knowledge of safety protocols are vital.
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
Experience is essential to job success, as well as completion of classes regarding specific dealers.
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Personally, I feel that in order to do something well, one must genuinely enjoy their work. A potential employee must work well with others, and has to be flexible to accommodate the salesmen and the needs of the larger heavy machinery customers.
