Yes, and this is something I like. I really enjoy working with people. This is the key reason I became involved with social work. I love meeting new children, parents and volunteers. It seems everyone has a different story and they are all very grateful when I help them out.

I work with a match support specialist who checks up on the matches I make and makes sure they are all going well. I also work with university co-chairs who plan events for our college volunteers.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
|
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
You need a bachelors degree in a human service field for starters. You also need to have some experience with interviewing clients and experience working with children. Also, you must have a driver's license and your own transportation and you need to be flexible with your schedule and good with people.

Social skills, ability to look past messy/unkempt households, flexibility, computer skills, interviewing skills, good judgement of character.

Yes, a 4 year degree in human services and continuing social service education beyond that.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
As long as you remain flexible and are good with people you'll excel. You need to sometimes be creative and able to make exceptions and changes for people in differing situations, like scheduling interviews at odd hours or accommodating those without transportation.
