3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Present yourself as to who you really are, with a good work ethic and Christian values.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
The most important part of my job is confidentiality. Social, organizational and technical skills are also very important because interruptions for church personnel are the norm. Death, illness, accidents are happening at unexpected times and pastors need to be available 24/7. Secretarys must be able to handle all situations that arise within the congregation both with confidentiality and compassion, especially when the pastor is not immediately available.
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
Yes, but along with that you need to be a people person.
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Always keep what is going on in the office to yourself, not discussing it with church members and be prepared to drop everything to deal with any emergency situation that comes up, or anyone who needs someone to talk to.
