3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
They would need to go to college(I went to a 2 year Technical college)and learn the basics. While still in school, get some older computers that if they mess them up, it doesn't matter. Tear them apart and put them back together. Have other people mess with it and give it back and then fix it. Just practice. Try to get as good as you can. Start trying to get friend's computers fixed. That's how I did it.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
An intermediate knowledge of how computers work. Need to be self motivated to get work done. Must be confident as well as competent in your work. Need to build a network of customers and provide excellent customer service. Word of mouth will get more business than any other advertising. You would have to be able to keep itemized lists for tax purposes.
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
It would be very beneficial, although I do know quite a few people who do what I do and have no formal training. If you were going to try to get hired by a larger business, a certificate or diploma would most likely be required.
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Learn as you go. The best schools can't teach you every nook and cranny of any carreer. Treat each job as if you were going to purchase the product you are working on. You want every person you see or talk to to remember your work as A++
