Get your get your teaching credential and idealy and Bachelor of Arts in elementary education.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

You definately need good social skills to deal with co-workers and children who are difficult. You need to be very assertive at times and have a comanding presence, but not so much so that the younger children are intimidated. It's a balancing act of sorts, and you can learn it best by doing some student teaching.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

You have to take charge of your classroom. Don't let children who are trying to get attention fluster you. Be understanding of the children's personal lives. Meet with their parents when you get a chance--it could help you understand why a child is acting the way she/he does and give you a better idea of a good way to handle them.
