2. Work environment! |
Does
your job entail you working with others on a daily basis? Is this
something you like/dislike about your job? Explain
I work directly with a subordinate on a daily basis as well as answer requests for data or assistance from the rank and file user base. We try to funnel these requests through a single point of contact, however our users are full of a sense of entitlement and will often call me and then I'm forced to try and complete whatever tasks they've asked for help with by reading my own crappy handriting. So yes, I work with people daily but can't seem to manage that interaction in a way that would make my job easier so I dislike it.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Find a call center and get a job there, then answer every job posting you can for "tech support" within that call center. I studied Chemical Engineering in college but got into IT via the call center job I had when I was in school. No one gets hired in IT without some experience and call centers are a good place to get started with that.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
Patience, fantastic written and verbal communication skills, more patience, good problem solving skills with a little more patience. You can learn any programming language, and software, anything computer related, but if you are a jerk you'll never get anything done and everyone will hate you making it even harder
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
College level writing and math classes
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Run. It isn't worth it. There are more bad days than good and when things get really badly broken everyone will look to you to fix it. I wrote our company's disaster plan and it makes me throw up every time I have to test it. Furthermore, most users have a kneejerk "blame the computer" reaction to everything that really sucks the soul out of any job satisfaction I have
