If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
A good approach is to know the material that is expected of you for the position and applying directly for that position. Also helpful is generally knowing someone within the company which would allow you to get a foot in the door.

skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
For working in the consulting industry you should have a variety of skills. Although your main position may be in developing software, you still need to have a firm grasp on writing as well as be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.

No, as long as you have a basis the rest of the training will come on the job.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Make sure that the position is actually where you want to be. The path that you go on narrows incredibly in a way that may not be what you are looking for.
