3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
|
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
Go to www.jobs.faa.gov. Jobs with the FAA are hard to come by, so that would be a good place to start. Having a background with secretarial skills, receptionist skills and administrative support definitely helps.
|
|
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
Organizational skills/Attention to detail: Dealing with official government documents requires extra attention to detail. Filing needs to be done correctly so that documents can be found when needed for reference. Details need to be accurate in correspondence because many letters that go out reference specific federal regulations…just transposing a number could make a big difference as to what reference material a pilot uses.
Grammar skills: Correspondence and other documents need to be written correctly using proper grammar and punctuation.
Social skills: Greeting customers via phone and in person at the front desk requires me to be personable and friendly to make them feel welcome.
Computer skills: Documents are created in Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel and skills are needed in order to work with these programs efficiently as well as having the knowledge of how to navigate the internet and other programs specific to the FAA.

Yes
|
|
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
Being able to multitask efficiently is a necessity, and having the skills mentioned above will greatly increase your chances of getting a job in my position.
