3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
It pays to not just look at want ads and job websites, but to think of types of places you would like to work at and do some investigating. My company wasn't even hiring when I applied; it just looked like a place I wanted to work at, so I just sent a resume to them in the hopes that eventually they would be looking to hire.
What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
You need to be responsible enough to be able to work without a whole lot of structure, and you need to be able to "think outside the box". Organization skills are definitely a plus!
Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?
A college degree is helpful, but it's not the type of job that requires a lot of technical knowledge. Much of it I learned on the job.
What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
You have to be very comfortable dealing with people and to be able to be a mediator. Being in a very small company, you also have to be able to create your own position and not be afraid of change.
