I work for the United States Air Force. One of four branches of the military and our job is to provide homeland security.

Fix trucks, any vehicle in our fleet really. I also provide out call support over 21000 square miles. I have to fill out paper work/work orders, trouble shoot and diagnose vehicle problems or no start conditions, as well be world wide deployable in moments notice.

I have to work with civilians and enlisted personell on a daily basis. I enjoy working with others because some of the old timers around my shop really know there stuff which makes work easier.

I work either in a fully stocked shop with everything from the latest automotive tool to your 20 ton lift. I also work out in the field which I dislike because of the time away from home.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Go see an Air Force Recruiter and get yourself in shape for boot camp. You know do push ups and sit up regulary

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

Well, you need to know how to deal with a little frustration, a lot of dirty, and a whole heck of a lot of technical knowledge. But lucky for you if you enlist all of this is given to you via boot camp and technical training school. You will need to know how to communicate as well as be able to stay focused during high pressure situations.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes, you need to learn the basics of automotive vehicles before you can do anything. Technical training is a must!

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

I would take a good look at your vehicle and deciede if it is something that intrests you, ie how it works and how to make it work better or at all. Be willing to get your hands dirty and don't be afraid to ask questions.
