The US Postal Service which is a large government service agency delivering and processing mail for the country.

I work with major customers to assist them in developing mailpieces and automated systems that will allow them to produce and enter mail into the postal service that not only will be easier to sort but will be at the lowest rates available. I also test automated equipment at customers sites to assure the high quality results are within our specifications.

I am basically in a customer service position dealing daily with many varying customer sites and situations. I just love the customer interaction.

I have a home office but I am in the field at customer sites approximately half my working days. It is a good mix of office and field duties. Some of the long drives do get a bit old after doing them for 17 years,

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

First take a Civil Service test and when hired work as effeciently as possible so that management sees your potential.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

The person must be customer friendly, have the ability to organize multiple tasks and work without any immediate supervison. There is a large amount of mailing industry knowledge to learn as well as technical rules and regulations.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes. A four year degree from an accredited college.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Just always rememeber to see the customers side as well as yours. Get ready to have to memorize a lot of regulations.
