I am an independent contractor for a company whose size I am unsure of. They handle accounts of large hospitals.

Four months.

I listen to doctors dictate medical reports and type them up so that they are considered legal documents.

Right now none, but I can change that if I switch to employee status.

I work at home connected by AIM to other co-workers. I enjoy the ability to work by myself and yet at times I would like to have a co-worker to chat with or get assistance from.

My "office" is a portion of my living room with a large hutch desk. I would like a separate room so that I do not have the background noise.

I would highly recommend attending a good school, such as Career Steps, for the appropriate training.

good organizational skills, good hearing, typing ability, and interest in medical terminology.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Absolutely.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Be persistent. Continue to educate yourself on all the changing medical procedures. Work hard and be willing to learn.
