Division of a large media corporation. This division has approx. 1100 employees (main corp. 60,000 worldwide). The division I am with provides fulfillment & data services for various companies.

Provide support to various VPs and staff, mainly travel, presentations, scheduling. Also coordinate staff and company events to include trade shows, annual meetings, vendor award shows, etc.

Yes. I like working with others. It allows me some adult interaction and provides me with the opportunity to learn more about other people's jobs and to expand my knowledge of the industry.

Office, in the field. I have a nice office space and ample room to work. I dislike that there is no "nice" place to relax during breaks. I also spend time in the field, scoping out venues and meeting with vendors. I enjoy getting out of the office and checking out new places.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Know your office software inside out. Also, strive for perfection when it comes to presentations, writing, etc. My job is to make my superiors look good. Also, have a strong knowledge of the English language. It is imperative that grammar, spelling, etc. is perfect. Be a people person too. I deal with so many different personalities and it is important that people warm up to you because it makes it so much easier to conduct business.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

Social skills, Microsoft Suite, Creativity, be conscientious and be able to stick to deadlines.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes. Though I was self taught on computer applications, having an education helped me to get a better job and it helped with certain skills.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Be willing to learn and try new things. Be proactive and once in the job, suggest tasks or projects that you would like to do/be involved in. Have a flexible personality to be able to work with a wide range/type of people.
