3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours? |
|
If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?
I would recommend that they contact the local Child Services for their state and find out what is involved in becoming lisenced or registered to care for children. I'd also recommend they advertise their business to get clients.

What
skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a
position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social
skills, organization skills, technical skills)
To operate a home daycare you need to enjoy working with children because it is a very tough job. Kids aren't always easy and you need to have patience. A good child care provider needs to be organized because there is a lot of paperwork involved in running a business. Social skills are a must since you need to be able to communicate well with children and parents.

I believe education is a good thing to have but not necessary. Experience would suffice.

What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?
I'd advise the person not to be discouraged! Sometimes it takes time to get your business off the ground. It takes time, patience and a lot of interviewing. I'd also tell them to go to yard sales and consignment shops for toys and supplies!
