I work for a large well known computer/electronics corporation, in the retail division. We sell computers, music players, and company and 3rd party branded accessories.

Talking with customers about our products, teaching how to use the products, demonstrating features and benefits, helping customer find the right solution for their needs. Also do some troubleshooting on computers and music devices. In Visuals Lead capacity, I ensure the store is set to corporate specifications, all fixtures and product are neat and properly labeled, all demo systems are correctly configured and neatly displayed.

Yes, I interact daily with my coworkers and also with many customers who come into the store. With a few exceptions, I really like my coworkers and enjoy working with them. In general I am not fond of dealing with customers.

I work in a small retail store in an upscale shopping center. I like the small size of the store because I can easily keep track of where everything is and what's going on at any given time.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

I would recommend learning as much as possible about the computers and other devices we sell. Technical knowledge and software knowledge are both useful.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

People skills and communication skills are very important for dealing with the public on an everyday basis. A positive attitude is a must. Technical and software skills are also important for answering customer questions and informing them about the product.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Yes, technical and software training in the products we sell is necessary.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Learn as much as you can. Play with the computers during downtime, to get more comfortable. Listen in on and learn from your more experienced coworkers' interactions with customers.
