I work for a large non-profit. There are 300+ people in our NY office. We have branch offices all over the world.

My major responsiblities involve project management of books we are signing and producing. I also travel 5-6 times a year to conference where I sell the books and network. Author correspondence is a big part of my daily job.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

They would need to intern at another publishing company first.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

They would need to be a good writer, have good spelling and grammar. They would need to have good social skills because author management is a key part of this job. They would need to be comfortable navigating databases and know basic Microsoft programs. Being a fast typer is very helpful as we are at the keyboard most of the day.

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

Not really.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Be prepared for monotonous work sometimes and low pay; be happy that you work for a great company and get to travel!
