I work for a solo practitioner in the field of civil litigation witha focus in medical malpractice.

I draft and respond to discovery as well as motions, I research legal issues, I organize medical records and legal documents. I aid in all facets of trial preparation and participate in trials as well including the arguing of motions and even trying smaller persnoal injury cases.

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

Go through Martindale Hubble online and lookf or a firm that is the size and area you want to practice in that have a good rating and contact those firms to see if they are hiring.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

They need to attend law school, pass the bar, be willing to be self motivated in order to accomplish what needs to be done on a daily basis. Self motivation is also important as the majority of the salary and bonuses will come from cases that you yourself obtain for the firm. Strong legal writing and research skills a must and strong organizational skills are also very important.

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

Make sure this is something you really want to do, law school is time consuming and expensive, the bar is hard and you must re-take it each time you move to a different state. This is not a career to be picke dup ona whim. Research it and maybe we work for a law firm or two before embarking on this path.
