  7 am - 8 am

Usually pre work at home getting ready for work. getting up and dressed as well as getting my son ready to go to a sitter. I usually don't leave for work until around 8 am

  8 am - 9 am

I arrive at work around 8:30 from home and taking my son to the sitters. the first thing I usually do is check in with everyone to see who is in the office that day, get a cup of tea and boot up my computer check for phone messages as well as email messages.

  9 am - 10 am

by this time I am still reviewing emails and getting ready any reports that are due for that day. check on my calenadar to see what the day has scheduled as well I usually have daily reports to turn in every am so I prepare these for emailing

  10 am - 11 am

I am finishing up my daily reports and starting on any accounting work I have to do that week. that means checking the weekly schedule see what is due and start preparing those reports. reports are usually done in excel and word files so much of this time is on the computer

  11 am - 12 pm

again, I will work on the weekly reporting I need to have done as well as anwer the phones and make any necessary calls before lunch time.

  12 pm - 1 pm

this is lunch hour. lunch is usually with my boss or visitors we may have at the facility so at times it is a working lunch.

  1 pm - 2 pm

after lunch we get the company mail and I go through that, sort it stamp it in and see what needs done with the incoming mail. Bills to A/P and some mail will need faxed or sent to our home office/whereever it need tended to

  2 pm - 3 pm

usually in the afternoon I do some hr work consisting of answering phone calls, faxing in paperwork, emailing questions to our hr department what ever needs to be done that day.

  3 pm - 4 pm

again I am usually doing hr work in the afternoon, that can consist of filing, preparing paperwork to be handed out to employees to be filled out or information they requested or need that week

  4 pm - 5 pm

at the end of the day I am usually cleaning up my desk and my computer to get ready to end the day. finish replying to emails that need addressed or phone calls that need answered. turn off my computer and lock everything up to get ready to go home!

time to go home for the day, after 5 pm is personal time

Yes I work with alot of people on a daily basis and I usually like it

It is an office in a manufacturing facility, the office is actucally a double wide trailer but it is seperate from the plant area so it is nice, open and clean

3. How should someone new to the workforce get a J-O-B like yours?

  If someone wanted to go about getting a job similar to yours, what would you recommend for him or her to do?

have an education, at least an associates degree but perferably a bachelors degree, get any business related accounting experience you can early, it makes a big difference if you have an education and experience when seeking a job.

  What skills do you think a person should have if they want to pursue a position like yours? Please be specific and explain why (e.g., social skills, organization skills, technical skills)

In my job you have to do a little bit of everything, so you need people/social skills as well as accounting and business background. Every job today I think you need ot have great organizational skills, in this day and age of multi-tasking we all need to be organized. I think math skills are of course the most important as well as a good bit of common sense

  Do you feel that you need a certain level of education or training to be successful in your job?

yes, as I said before at least a 2 yr but perferrably a 4 year degree

  What advice would you give to someone who was about to start work in your position/ line of work?

keep track of what you are doing for at least the first couple of months. alot of accouting is repetitive and keeping a log of what you are doing and how you did it will come in handy the next month

yes, meeting with the president of the company at the time and his assistant (small company)

it was very long ago, I think it mostly entailed my past work experience and education

No

I wanted to be a medical technician but didn't have enough biology and chemistry so I went with something I knew already which was business and majored in accounting. My family had a business when I was growing up and I did alot of the bookkeeping with my Mom

Yes some but I mostly learned as we went along, alot changed since I was first hired so you can say it was on the job training

I guess, they hired me, and I had alot of previous experience from my family and 1 other job

in some ways, I think my background prepared me more that the education but you need to have the education in addition to the experience

  If someone were to observe you at work, what would he or she say is “fun” about your job?

the people I work with are great, we try to make light of our jobs and have some fun

  What is (are) the most fulfilling aspect(s) and least fulfilling aspect(s) of your current employment? (e.g. fiscal, spiritual, type of work, hours, commute, compensation, etc.)

I would always choose to work shorter hours than I do 8-5 weekdays and the environment is not always pleasant becuaase it is manufacturing. But it is fulfilling to help people with the HR work I do so I find that helps

  Is your current employment part of your career plan? Why or why not?

I don't know, right now I guess it is, the area I live in the job market is not the greatest and I receive a nice salary for this area so I guess it is my career plan for not\w

I think about going back to school for a masters degree but don't feel it will help my career that much, but I am still pondering it
